The owner of SunStop Sunglasses, Mark Woods, got his start in the retail business in 1981 as a Sunglass Rep for an import/export company before he had thoughts to start his own company. The market for sunglasses was growing steadily and there were few dealers in state of Utah, so Mark decided to open his own store with his partner and longtime friend Paul Berg.
Mark and Paul had a vision for giving great customer service and having a great selection of popular sunglass brands and fusing the two together, knowing this would create a great experience for customers.
Mark opened his first SunStop store in 1989 in Valley Fair Mall, where he worked open to close for months until he got the business up and running. He opened a second location a year later in St. George at the Red Cliffs Mall which is still one of his best selling stores. In 1992 as demand steadily rose, Mark expanded by opening two more flagship stores in Sandy City at the Southtowne Mall. Mark now owns stores in St. George, Provo, and his two stores in Sandy.
In 1995, Mark Woods bought his friend Paul Berg’s shares in the company and became the sole owner of the SunStop corporation. Although Paul was no longer a share holder in the business, he firmly believed in SunStop Sunglasses and what Mark was offering to customers so he stayed involved and helped where he could. Paul passed away on July 21, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.
Today, the stores carry a vast assortment of brands like Oakley, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Smith, and many more with a wide selection of styles within each brand. SunStop Sunglasses provide customers with top quality brands to choose from, knowing that everyone has their own unique style and taste.
Each SunStop employee has more than 30 hours of extensive training so that they can answer any question or concern our customers might have. Each employee that works for the company has an excellent knowledge on each specific brand and individual glass.
